Coupar Angus YWCA Girls Group

The Junior Girls Group (P5 & P6) meets every Wedsnesday night from 6 - 7.30pm.

The Intermediate Girls Group (P7 only) meets every Wednesday from 7.30 - 9pm.

The Senior Girls Group (S1 & 1st Year High School) meets every Tuesday night from 7 - 9pm.

The Mixed Youth Club (boys and girls, P7+) meets every Thursday night from 7 - 9pm

The sessions are run by the Coupar Angus YWCA whose aim is to empower girls and young women to participate in all levels of society.

During the sessions the groups often hold lively issue-based discussions as well as participating in fun activities such as dance and craft-making.
Projects of various sorts are also undertaken. The current project is the Heritage Project, funded by the Young Roots Heritage Lottery Fund. The aim of this project is for young people to research their local town history. They will then put on a drama based on the history they have researched. They will also produce a factual booklet. Scripts of the drama will be held in archive by the Heritage Association and the YWCA for future reference. It is hoped that by the end of this project a core group of 3 or 4 members will form a more permanent heritage group and work with the local Heritage Association

In a previous project emphasising problems with the town of Coupar Angus, the youth group made a DVD, (supported by Dialogue Youth and Pure Media UK) and invited councillors and funders to a screening. This was instrumental in stimulating the regeneration of the town.

Other activities the groups enjoy include trips to fun, interesting and educational places, such as the local grave yard at night( with zombies!), museums and local historical sites, as well as summer camp trips. This year (2007) a summer trip to Aviemore was organised, funded by the Scottish Youth Hostel Association's Give Us A Break fund
